If you haven’t heard Oprah’s interview with Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, it’s an absolute must! Dr. Taylor went through a spiritual meta-morphosis after suffering a massive stroke. Her interview with Oprah was not only compelling but underscores how “we are not our thoughts”. I absolutely loved this interview. It was both mesmerizing and fascinating. Here is some of her other salient and brilliant observations (in my humble opinion):
• When we stop listening to the chatter in our minds we are able to come into the present moment
• The attitude of gratitude brings us to the here and now and keeps us from living in the future
• Ask yourself if you like how your thoughts feel in your body. • Did you know that anger or just about any other negative emotion lasts only 90 seconds?
• The problem is that we re-think the same thought over and over again, almost obsessively, which is why we stay angry for lengthy periods of time, even years
• You choose to re-run the loops over and over again. • You have the ability to focus or re-focus your mind on whatever you want
• Give your mind a break, and find something new to think about
